Is Bloomberg Publishing Fake News Targeting Zhao Changpeng?

Date:

  • Bloomberg targeted CZ’s advisory role in crypto policy and flipped the facts by just highlighting his past with legal troubles.
  • Standing with his global outreach, CZ is now advising Kyrgyzstan and joining Pakistan’s crypto council irrespective of Bloomberg criticism.
  • In a fit of frustration, CZ calls Bloomberg just twisting facts media with selective coverage.

Changpeng Zhao, also known as CZ, who was once CEO of Binance, is back on the pages of Bloomberg with yet another report. The conflict was reborn after an article that raised doubts about his advice to the world governments about cryptocurrency policy. While CZ is still contributing to government-related talks on the issue of unclear regulations in various countries, his published record of legal conflicts attracted most of the attention.

The recent backlash started after CZ sat down with Malaysia’s prime minister to talk about the country possibly becoming a key player in the digital assets space across Southeast Asia. Not long after, Bloomberg covered a piece that circled back to his earlier guilty plea in a money laundering case. They highlight the jail time and many fines he faced. CZ didn’t stay quiet and responded publicly, clearly frustrated by the way the coverage played out.

“Another hit piece from Bloomberg. they pick a person and write fictional attacks with zero evidence,” said CZ in frustration.

CZ’s Global Crypto Outreach

CZ joined the Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC) in early April 2025. Apart from this advisory role in PCC, he also provided advisory assistance to Kyrgyzstan to become a major crypto hub. These efforts fall under his larger mission to assist countries with regulations on digital assets, something at which he has years of expertise. The US media criticism notwithstanding, his efforts are still welcomed in these countries.

However, Bloomberg was less interested in his global reach and more interested in casting his return to public policy as contentious. The publication didn’t avoid connecting his legal past with his more recent advisory roles, presenting a contrast that most observers find disingenuous. It is not the first controversy involving CZ that has pitted him in a battle with the press.

The issue became personal when CZ challenged Bloomberg’s trustworthiness, as he heard that they would close down their entire investigative reporting team due to poor ethics. This is an indication that he has been upset for some time with how some news organizations speak about cryptocurrencies.

CZ Calls Out Bloomberg for Ignoring Giggle Academy

Bloomberg’s report also referenced one of CZ’s earlier responses during an AMA regarding Giggle Academy, a charity that focuses on education and vocational skills in developing areas. He forced that instead of just criticizing, Bloomberg must consider the Giggle’s over 28,000 children enrolled. The report, however, chose one particular remark regarding labor laws and manipulated it to create worries over child labor.

“We don’t want to violate any laws about working age. Giggle doesn’t offer a job market… it plans to in the future,” CZ replied.
