Lomond School Embraces Bitcoin Payments to Attract Global Visionaries
According to a recent report, Lomond School, located in Helensburgh in the west of Scotland, will start accepting tuition in BTC in the Autumn term of 2025. By doing so, it would become the first UK school to achieve such a milestone. Lomond School is a private day and boarding school that offers high school education for students from the age of three to eighteen.
Lomond revealed that it will receive payments using FCA-registered providers, such as CoinCorner and Musquet. In addition, it would operate in line with UK financial regulations. In a statement, the school stated that it would convert the BTC payments to British Pounds in order to minimize currency risk. It further outlined plans to create a Bitcoin reserve if cryptocurrency gains increased adoption in the UK and global fronts.
Lomond School principal Claire Chisholm made these revelations at the national Bitcoin conference, Cheatcode. Claire remarked that the school has been an academic nurturing ground for the world’s brightest minds. She also referenced John Logie Baird, a former pupil and the inventor of the television.
She also stated:
We were the first boarding school in Scotland to house both boys and girls under the same roof and recently moved away from the Scottish Government’s SQA curriculum and introduced the International Baccalaureate, a globally-renowned qualification favoured by universities and employers worldwide.
Per reports, the school hopes the new payment option will attract both foreign and locally based families. They added that the move followed some families’ requests for BTC as an alternative payment option.
This new initiative could eliminate the uncertainty associated with international exchange rates for customers outside the UK for customers outside the UK. In light of this, Lomond School hopes to attract patronage from more visionary families globally.
Global Academic Institutions Embrace Crypto Amid Bitcoin Surge
While Lomond is the first UK school to accept crypto payments, many institutions worldwide actively accept BTC for tuition. One notable mention is the University of Pennsylvania in the US. In addition, most universities in El Salvador accept BTC payments, as the country recognizes it as legal tender.
In January, India’s Birla Institute of Management Technology unveiled an on-campus coin, BIMCOIN. The token was created primarily as legal tender for students, vendors, and administrators within the campus. Its other purpose was to accelerate blockchain and digital finance utilization education.
At present, Bitcoin is trading at $82,293, indicating a 4.5% intraday uptick. It has seen 15 green outings in the past month and trades close to its cycle high. BTC’s current surge is fueled by the levy U-turn announced by President Trump.
