Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, acquired 6,556 Bitcoin (BTC) between April 14 and April 20. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) received filing documentation through Form 8-K showing the purchase amount of $555.8 million. The company now owns 538,200 BTC, making it the leading publicly traded firm in Bitcoin holdings.

Strategic acquired 6,556 bitcoins at an average cost of $84,785. Following its three-week peak, Bitcoin’s market price remains high at $87,300. Strategy holds $36.47 billion worth of Bitcoin investments that it purchased at an average price of $67,766 per BTC.

Organization Secures Funding Through Stock Offering Programs

The bitcoin purchase acquired recent funds from two stock offering programs under Strategy’s at-the-market (ATM) protocol. The company achieved $547.7 million in capital by selling 1.76 million shares of its Class A common stock. The company generated $7.8 million when it distributed over 91,000 shares of its 8.00% Series A perpetual preferred stock (STRK).

Bitcoin acquisition remains powered by established funding programs. The funding mechanisms help Strategy maintain flexibility which allows the company to buy more bitcoin without taking on debt. The company’s successful fundraising demonstrates investors are highly supportive of the way it buys digital assets.

Market Context and Stock Performance

The latest acquisition of Strategy occurs as the cryptocurrency market demonstrates improvement. The total crypto market value has reached approximately $2.75 trillion.

Bitcoin achieved a new high valuation at $87,500 while Ethereum and additional cryptocurrencies demonstrated rising value boosted market sentiment.

The stock performance of Strategy (MSTR) showed a positive response. MSTR stock prices increased by 2.77% before the market opening, after MSTR announced its Bitcoin purchase. MSTR stock rose over 133% during the previous year, providing superior performance to other major technology and cryptocurrency-related equities. The financial market performance revealed Tesla rose 57% while Bitcoin increased 33% along with Nvidia reaching 30% and Apple maintained a 17% growth during this interval.

Investor Participation and Institutional Growth

Strategy stock keeps attracting more investors to its platform. In the first quarter of 2025, investors from both institutional and retail sectors acquired over 13,000 institutional positions and 814,000 retail accounts for the company. Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and mutual funds, alongside pension plans and insurance portfolios, hold Strategy stock equity for approximately 55 million people.

Multiple investors across various sectors continue investing in the company because its operations bridge traditional financing and digital asset industries. Corporate Bitcoin accumulation strategies receive support from diverse investor groups permitting expanded adoption of digital assets as treasury reserves across mainstream finance.

Through its April 14, 2025 announcement, the company disclosed the purchase of 3,459 Bitcoin coins, which cost $285.8 million at $82,618 per coin. The recent acquisition indicated an end to acquisition pauses that had lasted for some time.
